The services are provided by Matthew Pitts, who has worked as a professional pianist and organist most of his working life.
Matthew began to play the organ at the age of five, and the piano at the age of nine. He graduated with first-class honours from Durham University, where he was awarded an organ scholarship at the College of St Hild and St Bede, and also completed a Masters degree at Sheffield University.
He is a diploma-qualified pianist who was awarded prizes for piano performance, and performs both as a concert soloist and as an accompanist to choirs, singers and instrumentalists. He has acted as accompanist for grade exams, festivals, concerts and university exams.
Matthew is an experienced teacher, who has guided many pupils to proficiency and his pupil exam record is outstanding. He has taught pupils of all ages and abilities, from those wishing to pursue careers in music to those playing merely for pleasure.
Matthew is also a qualified organist, having previously been Organ Scholar of Chichester Cathedral and Organist of St Peter Mancroft, Norwich. He is presently Shrine Organist at the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and Organist of St Mary's Church, Little Walsingham, positions he has held since 2024.
